Current known issues in BETA phase of the STACKIT Server Agent
The STACKIT Server Agent is currently not supported on Linux images based on ARM, but we are working on delivering an ARM compatible version in the near future.

How does the STACKIT Server Agent receive updates? Is there any action required?
If there are new versions of the STACKIT Server Agent, it will automatically update its binaries through a built-in update mechanism. As a customer, you do not need to perform any tasks to maintain it at its latest version.
Is my server performance affected when a backup is created?
No, the creation of a backup will not affect the performance of your server.
What if the VM is no longer reachable or the login is not possible (e.g. via SSH)?
- Check if VM is switched on → Switch on (Managing an existing Linux instance).
- Check if SecGroups are set correctly (Are incoming connections allowed e.g. for SSH?) (Create and manage Security Groups).
- Check if the service is actually running under the desired port (e.g. SSH → port 22), the check can be done e.g. via web console or another way:
- Check if VM is accessible via web console (Access your server using web console) and do the troubleshooting via (How to recover access to your VM оr to do emergency troubleshooting).
- Otherwise, restart the VM.
Which updates will be installed to my server?

Do I need to update my server when I use the latest image?
The images are updated on a regular base so if you have used the latest image, all latest updates are included but it is recommended to have an additional trigger of the updates after your server creation:
How long does it takes to create a backup or restore it?
The speed of the backup creation and restoration process depends on the:
- size of the volumes
- volume performance type
- overall load of the backup system.
If you to use more frequent backups and speed up the restore process, it is recommended to use the volumes with a better performance type.
What if the VMs can't communicate with each other or what if the network communication from/between VMs not working?
Validate that the security groups are set correctly for the communicating VMs. The incoming connections must be explicitly allowed. See Create and manage security groups.

Can I use this service to backup my database which is stored on the server?
If you are using a database on the server, it is recommended to backup it separately.
You can store the database backups on a specific volume attached to a server and use the Server Backup Management Service to automatically backup this volume.
What is the maintenance window?
The maintenance window defines the period in hours during which the update process will be triggered. Please note that based on the size of the updates and the selected flavor the update process can finish after the end of the maintenance window. Please note that during the ongoing update process the server can be restarted if the updates require this.
For which operating systems can the server update management service be used?
You can use it for all Windows and Linux servers which are provided by STACKIT:
I have enabled the Server Update Management Service, but the installation of all updates is failing.
Check if the STACKIT Server Agent is properly installed on your system after the server creation. In case of issues with this agent, please follow the Troubleshooting STACKIT Server Agent documentation.
Also make sure to have a working internet connection on your system.
What is the STACKIT Server Agent?
The STACKIT Server Agent is running on each STACKIT Server and is a crucial service to provide our current and future STACKIT features and services like Run Command, Server Update Management and many more to come. It serves as an interface between our infrastructure and the operating system and receives and processes scripts sent remotely and executes them locally on your server, allowing you to configure your server as required.
The customer is responsible to ensure that this application will not be uninstalled, disabled, changed or removed. Upon request, customers must cooperate with STACKIT to fix issues with the STACKIT Server Agent or must provide STACKIT temporary access to these servers to fix it.
