Create and manage STACKIT Network Areas

Prerequisites

• You have a STACKIT customer account: Create a customer Account
• You have a STACKIT user account: Create a user account
• You have a STACKIT project: Create a project

Create a STACKIT Network Area

STACKIT Portal

1. Open the settings of your organization in the resource manager.
2. Navigate to Network Area
3. Click on Create Network Area
4. Enter a descriptive and individual name for your SNA, and click Next.
5. Add one or several different Network ranges.

   What is a network range used for? When creating a network in a project, the subnet is automatically sized with the prefix length selected. The IP-Range gets sliced out of the network ranges defined here. It is not possible to edit a network range after its been created, but you can add and delete as many network ranges as needed.

6. Define a Transfer range.

   What is the transfer range used for? The transfer range is the CIDR of the SNA transfer network. Each project router receives an IP-Address from this pool. This means that the transfer range should have as many IP-Addresses as you have projects planned for this SNA.

   The transfer area determines how many projects can be created in an SNA. It is not possible to extend this range later on, so make sure that the subnet is big enough for the intended size.
7. Add up to 3 default DNS name servers.

   What are the default DNS name servers used for? If no DNS servers are specified when creating a network in the SNA, these are automatically set to the default values of the SNA.

8. Set the Min/Max and Default prefix length for Networks being created in the SNA. Read Create and manage Virtual Networks on how to create Virtual Networks.
9. Click on Save.
10. Wait until the status changes to Created.
    After the SNA is created regions need to be enabled before we can begin using it!

    Managing IP’s for SNA’s Important to note that any projects we now add to this new SNA need to use unique IP’s across the whole SNA and regions.

11. Next we need to navigate back to the resource manager and create a new Project that will be part of the SNA we just created.
12. Enter a descriptive Project name.
13. For Project type select Network Area.
14. In the new field Network Area that should have appeared below from the drop down select the newly create Network Area.
15. In the drop down for Billing Account select one that will be used for the project.
16. Finally click Create which will create a new Project that is now part of the SNA we just created.
17. Wait for the Project to be created.

Delete a STACKIT Network Area

STACKIT Portal

1. Delete all projects which are in the Network Area. -> Delete a Project
2. Open the settings of your organization in the resource manager.
3. Navigate to Network Area.
4. Make sure the Network Area you want to delete has no attached projects.
   It is not possible to delete a Network Area with attached projects!
5. Within the options menu click on Remove configuration.
6. Confirm the action by typing the Name of your Network Area in the text field.
7. Next navigate to the Inactive tab where our Network Area has been moved to.
8. Within the Options Menu click on Delete.
9. Confirm the action by typing the Name of your Network Area in the text field and click on Delete.
