Prerequisites

To create a project, you need the resource-manager.project.create permission. This permission is included in the Owner role and several other roles.

Procedure

Open the Resource Manager page in the STACKIT Portal.
Select Create project.
Enter the project name. You can use the recommend structure patterns to name your project.

The project name helps you identify the project later. It does not have to be unique, but it must not exceed 40 characters.
Select the parent organization and folder in which to create the project.
Select the project type.
- Public: Standard type. Resources are accessible over the internet (subject to service-level configuration).
- Network Area: Provides enhanced functionality, including internal, cross-project communication.
Choose based on your needs. Public projects suit general use cases, while Network Area projects provide additional features for projects needing internal communication.

The project type determines the network the project uses. Make sure you select the correct project type. You cannot change this after creation!
Select a billing account.
Provide a billing reference. [Optional]
A billing reference ensures accurate cost allocation and appears on the invoice. It can be any string that follows your internal guidelines.
- Use one for transparent cost assignment, even if the field is optional.
- If required, the system may show up to five matching results after you enter at least three characters.
- Do not include personal data (for example, a project owner’s name).
Click Create.

Project creation log and state

After you submit the creation request, the new project appears in your list with the state CREATING.

It may take a moment to appear.
While in the CREATING state, you can view progress in the Audit log.
Once the project is ready, its state changes to ACTIVE, and you can start using it.
