Deleting an additional storage volume

This tutorial guides you through the process of deleting an additional storage volume in the STACKIT portal.

If a storage volume is no longer required, it can be easily deleted. This page describes how this works and what to look for.

Before deleting a storage volume, it must be disconnected from any associated server.

  1. The management of the storage volume can be found in the STACKIT portal: Components → Volumes
Navigation snippet under COMPONENTS, showing the 'Volumes' option selected below 'Server'.

  2. Here you can select the storage volume that should be deleted.
If the storage volume is still connected to a server, it can only be deleted after the storage volume has been separated from the server. List item showing a volume/server named 'Test' with 'Stopped' status, and an open context menu displaying 'Detach' and 'Delete' options.

  3. The storage volume is deleted once the deletion process has been confirmed.
To do this, the name of the storage volume must be entered in order to prevent accidental deletion. The data is irretrievably deleted after the deletion process has been successfully completed.
Confirmation dialog box to 'Delete volume', requiring the user to type 'Instance-Volume' to proceed with the irreversible deletion.

The following applies to snapshots and backups for the storage volumes:

  • All snapshots (if any) must have been deleted before deleting the volume.
  • All (possibly created) backups remain when the storage volume is deleted and must be deleted separately if necessary.
