Concepts
STACKIT Archiving Service provides secure and audit-proof archiving for SAP and Non-SAP systems for a pre-defined long-term retention period. During the retention period the archived data is stored in a format conforming to specifications and cannot be modified or deleted that provides secure and audit-proof archiving for SAP (via SAP-ILM ans SAP-ArchiveLink connections) and Non-SAP (via REST API connection) systems for a pre-defined retention period. During the retention period the archived data is stored in a format conforming to regulatory specifications (in Germany and the EU) and cannot be modified. The architecture is built on Kubernetes, Object Storage, combined with NE.Databridge. NE.Databridge is a unique product from our partner next evolution GmbH and allows the data to be locked on hardware. This allows the storage type to be entirely WORM (Write Once, Read Many), which secures the data against ransonware. STACKIT has exclusive rights to use the NE.Databridge tool as a cloud archiving service. The Archiving NEAS API is integrated into the STACKIT API ecosystem which means it uses the unified Authentication, Authorization and Clients. Important
Section titled “Important”STACKIT Archiving Service is not doing any post processing of the data archived, there is no indexing or listing available, there must always be a customer leading system, from where the files are being sent to the STACKIT Archiving Service.
Use cases
Section titled “Use cases”- Archiving of any SAP/ERP or file systems for compliance purposes, wherever legally required.
- Archiving to reduce storage costs for data which is no longer actively used in day-to-day business.
- With the STACKIT Archiving Service, data can be stored not only in the long term, but also immutably and non-deletable via WORM(Write Once Read Many) Object Storage. This makes it easy to comply with EU retention
Functions
Section titled “Functions”- Archiving via URI with 3 possible interfaces: SAP-Archive Link, SAP-ILM-Standard or REST API.

- Optional: Automatic deletion of the archived data after expiration of the retention period.
Advantages
Section titled “Advantages”- WORM storage on hardware level – a secure method to archive data. This ensures that the data is protected against technical malfunctions and ransom attacks.
- STACKIT Archiving is an EU archiving service that offers WORM storage on hardware level.
- High availability: the storage of the archive is in metro zone (available in at least 2 availability zones at a time).
- No limit on the volume of the archived data or number of archived systems.
Availability zones
Section titled “Availability zones”STACKIT Object Storage utilizes Availability Zones within STACKIT European Data Centers. This design ensures high availability and resilience for your data. For a comprehensive overview, please refer to the Concept Object Storage documentation.
Retention period
Section titled “Retention period”When a new project is created or the STACKIT Archiving Service to an existing project, a retention period must be set. Depending on the type of data being archived, the retention period varies. Most common periods are 6 and 10 years.
However, depending on the fiscal/business year end of the organization, the addition of extra months or years might be required to ensure legal compliance. For ease of use in the selection process the retention period step is set to 1 year
