Getting Started with Dremio

Prerequisites

• You have a STACKIT customer account: Create a customer Account
• You have a STACKIT user account: Create a user account
• You have a STACKIT project: Create a project

Creating a Dremio instance

To order a Dremio instance, navigate to the Dremio section in the STACKIT Portal and click on Create Dremio.

You will be directed to the Dremio creation wizard, where you can provide the details about your Dremio instances.

For the sake of this guide, select the following:

• For Instance name, select the name of the instance you would like to use.
• Optionally add a description to the Description field.
• For Identity provider type, select Local only.

Local only means all users are required to login with a username and password. If you would like more information about how to configure Dremio to authenticate through an Identity Provider (IdP), see the Configuring Single Sign-On Authentication documentation.

Once you have finished adding the required details, click on Order fee-based.

Accessing the Dremio Console

The user management features provided via the STACKIT Portal and APIs are designed for provisioning your initial administrative accounts. We recommend using these only for your primary setup and as fallback users. For day-to-day management of non-admin users or delegating specific administrative permissions, please use native Dremio User Management features, like authentication via your own IdP, instead. See the Configuring Single Sign-On Authentication documentation for more details.

In order to access the Dremio User Interface, as an administrator, you must first create a Dremio User. Follow the steps below to create a new Dremio user:

1. Click on the name of the Dremio instance you just created.
2. On the left, click on Users.
3. Open the Create User modal by clicking on Create User.
4. Provide a username, a password, and optionally a description for the new Dremio user. Click on Create.

Once the user has been created, you will be able to access the Dremio Console, by going back to the Overview section, and following the Go to Dremio link, under the General information section.

The URL of the Dremio Console follows the format: https://<DREMIO_INSTANCE_ID>.dremio.<STACKIT_REGION>.onstackit.cloud/

If you selected the Local only option as mentioned above, you should be able to login to the Dremio Console by providing the username and password you specified when creating the Dremio user.
