We want to give our customers the information they need to get the most from our Secrets Manager. This FAQ section answers common questions.     What is Secrets Manager?

    Secrets Manager is a managed service that provides a secure key-value-store for sensitive data (such as passwords, configuration files and text). It enables the protection and management of secrets.

    I accidentally deleted a secret, can you restore it?

    We cannot restore individual secrets or secrets engines. Our backup’s only purpose is disaster recovery.

    If you have only overwritten your secret, the previous versions will still be available due to versioning, if you have set a version limit higher than one.

    Which secret engine do you use?

    We are compatible to HashiCorp Vault KV2 with secret versioning.

    Is it possible to use other secret engines?

    No, that is not possible.

    How can I change the password for an user?

    You have to delete the user and create a new one. For security reasons, we generate secure passwords and it is not possible to change them.

    What can I understand by a secret? And how does it affect billing?

    A secret is a set of key-value pairs and it can have an unlimited number of versions. You pay per secret version, and to control your cost you can set a version limit for the Secrets Manager instance or even the individual secret.

    Can I use any Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tool to configure my Secrets Manager instances?

    Yes, the Secrets Manager can be configured by the ]official STACKIT Terraform provider](https://registry.terraform.io/providers/stackitcloud/stackit).
