Order a Server Update Management Service

For the Server Update Management Service to be enabled on your VM, the STACKIT Server Agent is required to be installed on the server. This agent plays a crucial role in automating the management and installation of the latest Windows Updates on your machine, following the schedules you define.

Once the STACKIT Server Agent is enabled for your server, there are two options to activate the Server Update Management Service: Within the order of a new server or after the server creation on an existing machine.

Prerequisites

In order to follow the steps described on this page, the following conditions need to be met:

• Your organization has a customer account.

• You have a user account, are logged in to the Portal, and you have joined/created a customer account and project (See: Getting started)
• You have the required permissions (See: Identity and Access Management)
• You have a server in your project.
  (See: Creating a new Linux instance, Creating a new Windows Server)
• The STACKIT Server Agent is installed and running on your server.

Option 1: Activate the Server Update Management Service within the server order

After you have selected your server name, operating system / version and machine type and enabled the STACKIT Server Agent, you can activate the Server Update Management Service and the Update policy, which sets the default Update schedule, in the management section.

Option 2: Activate Server Update Management Service after server creation on an existing server

In case you already have a server, where the Server Update Management Service is not yet activated, follow the below mentioned steps:

1. Ensure, that the STACKIT Server Agent is installed and running on this server.

2. Select the server in the server overview and navigate to Updates > Overview.

3. Click Enable

   

4. Choose your update policy.

5. Click Order fee-based.
