Free Trial
Last updated on
Free trials are a powerful sales and marketing tool on the STACKIT Marketplace. They allow potential customers to experience the value of your product first-hand. This lowers the entry barrier and increases trust.
You can offer time-limited free trials for your Software as a Service (SaaS) products. These trials allow customers to test your solution without immediate financial commitment.
-
Visibility: STACKIT highlights products with active free trial options using specific indicators on the product card and detail pages.
-
Discoverability: Customers can filter the marketplace to find products that offer free trials.
-
Limitations: You determine the trial scope. We currently support time-limited trials, but you must define specific functional or resource limitations in your service certificate.
Prerequisites and eligibility
Section titled “Prerequisites and eligibility”Your product must meet the standard listing requirements for the STACKIT Marketplace to offer a free trial.
- Eligibility: The requirements for a free trial match those for listing standard public plans where STACKIT acts as the reseller. Review the standard listing requirements.
- Documentation: You must provide clear terms and conditions regarding data handling. Specifically, you must explain what happens to customer data if they do not convert to a paid plan after the trial expires.
Set up and configure a Free Trial
Section titled “Set up and configure a Free Trial”Our team guides you through the configuration process. We do not currently support self-service settings in the portals for free trials. Contact our integration team at marketplace@stackit.cloud to enable a free trial or configure parameters like duration.
Our team assists you with the following:
- Technical integration: Setting up the trial logic within the marketplace backend. 2. Conversion logic: Defining how the transition from trial to paid or trial to termination is handled.
Understand the customer journey You must understand how the trial behaves for the end user. This
Section titled “Understand the customer journey You must understand how the trial behaves for the end user. This”ensures your support and sales teams are prepared.
- Activation: Users activate trials directly via the Marketplace purchase wizard. No payment method is charged during the trial. However, the user must have a valid STACKIT user account, customer account, project, and sufficient permissions.
- Concurrent use: A project can subscribe to a product only once. However, users can run multiple free trials for different products simultaneously.
- End of trial: Free trials end automatically by default.
- Upgrading: If a customer upgrades to a paid plan, the system treats this as a plan change. You must define if and how data transfers from the trial environment to the production environment in your support documentation.
